iPad used to track stolen vehicle involved in chase in SE Houston
HOUSTON – A robbery suspect who led police on a chase Friday afternoon in the southeast Houston area then bailed out of the vehicle was taken into custody.
Houston police said the chase started with reports of a stolen vehicle around 4 p.m. Friday in the 5900 block of South Acres, near Airport Blvd. and Mykawa Road
The driver in a silver Honda SUV led police on a chase on several roads, then went off-road to cross from one street to another.
The man eventually stopped in an easement behind a neighborhood between Oday Road and Hatfield Road, then got out of the vehicle and ran off.
He jumped a fence and put on a black jacket, then ran through multiple yards, using the trees as cover.
Officers used K-9 units to help in the search.
The driver was taken into custody around 4:50 p.m. near Orchard Spring Drive in the Pearland area.
Police said they were able to track the location of the vehicle by following an iPad that was in the vehicle.
