The Woodlands firefighter shot, killed during altercation in Montgomery County, officials say

THE WOODLANDS, Tx. – An investigation is underway after a firefighter was shot and killed by a homeowner during an altercation Sunday morning in Montgomery County, officials said.

The shooting was reported at 12:36 a.m.in the 28000 block of Denn Court.

The firefighter has been identified as 38-year-old Nicholas Daniel, who was employed at The Woodlands Fire Department.

The homeowner told officials that he and Daniel attended a party together at another location earlier that evening when they got into a confrontation involving text messages being sent, officials said. The homeowner said he was contacted by a third party, warning him that Daniel was driving to his residence and that he needed to lock the doors of his home, officials said.

The homeowner said he felt threatened and walked outside his home when he heard Daniel's truck approaching his residence, officials said. The homeowner said he walked to the back of the residence and saw Daniel open his front door looking for him, officials said.

Officials said the homeowner stated that he came from behind his home where he was confronted by Daniel and they got into a physical fight.

During the fight, officials said the homeowner shot Daniel several times with a concealed handgun, killing him.

No charges have been filed. The shooting is under investigation and will be presented to a grand jury for charges.
