Officials find badly burned man in lake during structure fire in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – A man is in critical condition after he was caught in a fire in Montgomery County.

The fire department got a call around 11 p.m. Friday about a large structure fire near SH 105 in the Security Community, officials said.

As they were responding, another call came in about a man who was on fire, authorities said.

Firefighters arrived to find a heavy fire in a garage-type structure, but according to officials, they were quickly able to tap water from a lake behind the property to get the fire under control.

While they were setting up the water supply, responders said they found the man in the lake.

According to authorities, he had caught fire and run into the lake in order to extinguish the flames.

The man suffered second and third-degree burns to more than 40 percent of his body, officials said.

He was flown to the John Sealey Hospital in Galveston, where he is being treated for the burns.
