Eastex Freeway reopens after deadly crash prompts closure

HUMBLE – All of the main lanes of 59 the Eastex Freeway in Humble reopened Wednesday after a deadly overnight crash.

According to police, a man was walking in the right moving lane of the Eastex Freeway going northbound near Townsen around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when he was struck by a passing Mustang.

The Mustang was entering the freeway at the time of the accident and the driver did not see the pedestrian before the impact, police said. 

According to authorities, the driver stopped and remained at the scene. The front passenger in the car was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

The accident is under investigation, but police do not believe alcohol was a factor, police said.

The outbound lanes of the freeway were closed as officials completed their investigation.
