Man covered in blood accused of stabbing mother to death, officials say

Gabriel Pereyra, 34, is accused of stabbing his mother to death Friday.

HOUSTON – A man was arrested Friday after officials said he stabbed his 67-year-old mother while she was sitting in a chair at home.

Investigators said they were called to a residence around 5:30 p.m. Friday in the 19300 block of Park Row in west Harris County and located a woman near the parking lot of an apartment complex. She was bleeding from the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.

Her son, Gabriel Pereyra, 34, was found covered in blood at the home, officials said. She was sitting in a chair inside the residence when the attack began, they said.

Pereyra's mother then ran out of the apartment and died on the sidewalk, the sheriff's office said.

Pereyra faces one charge of murder and is being held at the Harris County Jail without bond.
