Robber pistol-whips man after he offered his cellphone instead of cash, police say

HOUSTON – A man was pistol-whipped and shot at Monday after he offered a robber his cellphone instead of cash, according to police.

The robbery was reported about 2:30 a.m. at the corner of Forum Park Drive and Bissonnet Street.

Houston police said the man was walking on the sidewalk of Forum Park Drive with some friends when another man walked up, pointed a gun and demanded money. The victim told the man he didn’t have any cash, but offered to give up his cellphone. The man got angry, hit the victim in the face with the gun, started shooting and then fled without getting anything.

No one was hit by the gunfire, police said.

The victim suffered injuries to his nose, police said.
