North Freeway feeder road reopens after fatal hit-and-run

HOUSTON – The North Freeway feeder road near an inbound entrance ramp just north of 1960 has reopened after a fatal hit-and-run accident caused it to be shut down for several hours.

According to police, the accident happened around 3:34 a.m. Thursday near I-45 North Freeway and Cypresswood.

A 33-year-old motorcyclist is believed to have lost control of his bike while getting onto the freeway and hit the guardrail, police said.

A witness pulled over when the accident happened and believes the motorcyclist was alive after the initial crash.

According to police, after the accident a driver ran over the motorcycle, hitting only the bike, then someone in a black SUV ran over the motorcyclist and the motorcycle and kept driving.

The 33-year-old was dead when authorities arrived, police said.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office posted a tweet saying they are looking for a newer-model black GMC Terrain or a similar vehicle with damage.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office at 713-221-6000.
