Man shot by Houston police in SWAT situation dies, officials say

CLEAR LAKE, Texas – A man who was shot by Houston police during a SWAT standoff at an apartment complex Saturday has died, officials said.

Investigators were called around 8:45 a.m. to the 16500 block of Tiffany Court near Clear Lake.

Officials said Ronald Singletary was on the back porch of his unit firing gunshot rounds into the air and into other people's apartments. No one else was inside the apartment with him, officials said.

Houston police said Singletary then barricaded himself in his apartment and fired multiple shots in direction of police.

The suspect was ultimately shot during the shootout by a Houston police officer and was transported to Clear Lake Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The Tiffany Bay Townhomes released the following statement:

"On behalf of the Tiffany Bay Townhomes, we are truly saddened by this morning’s course of events at our community. This is a very nice resident who has never caused his neighbors or the property any problems prior to the event this morning. We are cooperating with authorities and extend prayers for all involved."

Investigators are working to learn more about this incident.
