Happy Tuesday, and Purple Heart Day!

On this day in 1782, then-General George Washington created a purple, heart-shaped decoration that was to be presented to soldiers for "any singularly meritorious action." We now know that decoration as the Purple Heart medal, which bears the bust of Washington.

Showers off the gulf continue on the east side and expect a 40% chance of rain across the area through 8pm. Once the heat of the day starts to wane, then things will dry out and settle down. Some of these storms are causing ponding on feeder roads and highways, so be careful if you're driving anywhere! Temperatures are cooling a bit with cloud cover and rain. Wednesday brings a 30% chance of scattered showers in the afternoon.
