Officers shoot masked gunman outside northeast Houston Family Dollar, police say

HOUSTON – A robbery suspect was shot at a Family Dollar in northeast Houston.

Two officers were on patrol Thursday night when they saw a pair of armed robbers as they went to hold up a store, investigators said.

The suspects put on masks and walked into a Family Dollar in the 9600 block of Hirsch Road around 9 p.m., according to police.

Investigators said the masked robbers held the clerk at gunpoint and stole cash, as a mother and her three young sons watched nearby.

After getting the money, one suspect ran out the front door wearing a backpack with a gun, police said.

Officers ordered him to show his hands and when he didn't comply, officers shot him in the leg, police said.

He is expected to be OK.

The second suspect tried to escape out the back of the store, but ran back in and barricaded himself inside the store until about 10:15 p.m., when he was taken into custody, according to police.
