1 dead after car strikes motorcyclists, police say

HOUSTON – One person was killed and two others were injured after a car struck a group of motorcyclists early Sunday, according to Houston police.

Around 3 a.m., police said the driver of a black BMW 328 struck a red and black Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle, causing the motorcylist to lose control on the West Loop near Westheimer Road. The 39-year-old man was thrown from his bike and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second motorcyclist operating a red and black Kawasaki ZX-14R fell off his motorcycle. The 43-year-old man was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

After the crash, the driver left the scene, police said.

Shortly after the crash an officer found a vehicle matching the BMW's description in the 12600 block of Kylewick Drive, according to officials. The driver and vehicle were taken back to the crash scene, but authorities said witnesses were not able to positively identify him as the one involved in the crash.

The driver of the BMW was arrested and charged with DWI, police said.
