Body of missing swimmer found on Bolivar Peninsula

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas – The body of a swimmer was found early Tuesday morning after the man was reported missing Monday on Bolivar Peninsula.

Witnesses told deputies that they last saw the man about 100 yards from shore on an inflatable raft. After moving toward shore, he turned his raft loose and began walking backward toward the water, witnesses told investigators. That would be the last time they saw him.

He was reported missing around 6 p.m. on Monday. The United States Coast Guard searched for the missing man near Rollover Pass on the Bolivar Peninsula . Authorities used a helicopter and a boat to search for him.

A Galveston County Sheriff's Office deputy found the man's body Tuesday morning floating face down in the water about a quarter of a mile from where he went missing.
