Baby found crying in Houston apartment after murder-suicide

HOUSTON – A baby was found crying Friday inside a northwest Houston apartment after a murder-suicide involving people who are believed to be child’s parents, police said.

The shooting was reported about 8:40 a.m. at an apartment complex on T.C. Jester Boulevard near West Little York Road.

Assistant Chief Larry Satterwhite, of the Houston Police Department, said a caller reported hearing a gunshot at a neighboring apartment. A responding officer found a woman dead outside the apartment and called for more officers, thinking the gunman might still be in the area, he said.

Satterwhite said SWAT officers were eventually called to the scene. They looked into a window and saw a man inside the apartment who appeared to be dead and heard a baby crying, he said. The officers entered the apartment, rescued the baby and determined the man was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, he said.

The 6-month-old boy found inside the apartment was not injured, Satterwhite said.

The shooting is under investigation and police said they believe it to be related to domestic violence.
