HOUSTON – A firefighter was injured Tuesday while working to control a fire at an apartment complex in north Harris County, according to officials.
The fire was reported about 2:45 p.m. at the Pecan Square Village Apartments, near the intersection of Kuykendahl Road and Ella Boulevard.
Video from Sky2 showed thick smoke billowing from the scene as flames devoured the roof of an apartment building.
At least two alarms were sounded for the blaze.
A firefighter suffered an unknown injury, but was treated and released on the scene, authorities said.
Authorities said no one was hurt, but many people were displaced. Ten families were affected and 12 units were damaged. Red Cross was notified and arrived at the scene.
“I was at the grocery store when my friend called me and told me my apartment was on fire. So I came home, and this is it. I have nothing. My kids have nothing," Nannette Gross said.
The complex's management said it was trying to figure out a plan for the displaced tenants.
Officials said the fire was accidental and caused by "improperyly discared smoking materials on the first floor balcony."
