Man charged with murder in girlfriend's stabbing at METRO bus stop in SE Houston

HOUSTON – A man was charged with murder after a woman’s body was found Thursday at a METRO bus stop in southeast Houston.

Houston police said the body of 64-year-old Debra Haggerty was found around 6 a.m. in front the Broadway Casa Apartments in the 8400 block of Broadway with at least one stab wound to her chest.

Haggerty's boyfriend, Herberot Hill, 57, has been charged with her murder, according to Houston police.

Haggerty's purse was found next to her with all her belongings inside, investigators said.

Police said Haggerty might have been on her way to work when she was stabbed.

Police ruled robbery out pretty early in the case.

"The purse does not look like it (has) been gone through," said Det. Andrew Barr, of the Houston Police Department. "The purse was laying right beside her. Identification is in the purse. (Her) wallet is still intact. It does not look like a robbery at this time. We're still going to go through and identify her."

The motive for the stabbing is under investigation.
