HOUSTON – A man arrested Tuesday in connection with a pair of weekend kidnappings in north Harris County also faces charges in connection with a pair of weekend rapes in Montgomery County.
Investigators said Wednesday that Howard Dixon, 22, was arrested after a manhunt for a vehicle that was seen in surveillance video of the attacks in Harris County.
Harris County deputies said Dixon tried to force a woman into his car about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, but a grounds crew that was working nearby helped rescue her.
About 10 minutes later, Dixon forced another woman into his car and hit her in the face, deputies said. The woman, who spoke to KPRC2 about the attack, said she was able to jump out of the moving vehicle as Dixon tried to drive away.
Montgomery County deputies said that on Sunday afternoon, Dixon coerced another woman into his vehicle and raped her. She was able to escape shortly after the attack, deputies said.
Not long after that attack, Dixon coerced another woman into his car, raped her and choked her, deputies said. The woman was able to escape and immediately called for help.
Investigators said that 80 officers from seven law enforcement agencies combed the area of the attacks on Tuesday and found the vehicle.
Capt. Max Turner, of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, said that there may still be more victims in the area. He said the increase of violence in the attacks was a major concern.
"We saw the elevation of the aggressive nature of the suspect and we believe he would take it further and further, and it could have ultimately been a homicide," he said.
Dixon is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $300,000 bond.
