Alvarez-Soto had been at jail since 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to authorities. He was arrested on theft and trespassing charges.

He was captured Thursday, according to Harris County authorities.

He was approved for release on bond, but U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had requested him to be held.

Alvarez-Soto hid from view inside the inmate releasing area while awaiting pickup by ICE, but he was able to leave the jail through the exit inmates use after they are approved for release, according to authorities.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story said Alvarez-Soto was 35 years old. The Harris County Sheriff's Office has since corrected that information, as reflected in the current version of the story.
