Officer dragged during chase in Houston's South Side, police say
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 29-year-old man is facing charges after authorities said he dragged a police officer and led authorities on a chase in Houston's South Side on March 17.
Around 10 a.m. that day, officers said they were responding to a shooting call on Scott Street, near Good Hope Street, when they saw a vehicle run a stop sign near 3800 Lydia Street.
Officers asked Orlando Gross to stop his vehicle and get out, but as an officer approached the vehicle, Gross drove away with the officer clinging to the vehicle, according to police.
The officer was dragged a short distance, but was uninjured, authorities said.
Gross led officers on a short chase that ended in a driveway in the 7600 block of Lady Street, according to authorities.
A K-9 unit helped take Gross into custody, police said.
Gross is facing charges of aggravated assault on a public servant and evading arrest.
