3 arrested after shots fired at officers during SE Houston chase, police say
HOUSTON – A gunman fired several shots at police officers Sunday afternoon in southeast Houston, police said.
The shooting was reported at 4 p.m. in the 7000 block of Scott Street.
Houston Police said officers spotted a blue Acura run a stop sign at Conley and Ward streets. As officers initiated a traffic stop, the suspects sped off and led police on a short chase, officials said.
During the chase, a person in the vehicle fired several shots at the officer, police did not return fire, HPD Executive Assistant Chief Troy Finner said.
"I’m very proud of that. It’s very hard to safely engage a target from two moving vehicles," Finner said.
He said the suspects crashed at Dreyfus and Scott streets. The suspect got out of the vehicle and ran into a home, police said.
After surrounding the house, three suspects came out and were taken into custody, Finner said.
Police said there may be a fourth assailant, but it is unknown.
An assault rifle and a pistol were recovered, police said.
The Acura was stolen from west Houston during an aggravated robbery.
"I just want to say this, how proud I am of our police officers," Finner said. "They are working every day to make the city safe."
