Trump reviews prototypes of border wall near US-Mexico border
SAN DIEGO – President Donald Trump headed to San Diego on Tuesday to review prototypes of a border wall.
Several sections of wall were on display just north of the sheet-metal fence, which Trump called lousy and inferior, that marks the line between the U.S. and Mexico.
Trump spoke with Border Patrol agents while reviewing the towering structures.
One of the agents said that he began working along the border in 1992, before a fence was constructed. He said that when the sheet-metal fence was built, it cut down on illegal border traffic by 95 percent.
The construction of a wall along the southern border was a cornerstone of Trump’s presidential campaign, a sentiment he echoed Tuesday.
“If you don’t have a wall system, we’re not going to have a country,” Trump said.
Trump said he was impressed with one of the prototypes in particular, but said it is important for the wall to have a see-through capability.
