Security increased at La Porte High School after social media threat

LA PORTE, Texas – Additional police officers and administrators are expected at La Porte High School Friday after a social media threat, officials said.

The district said the social media post threatened a shooting at the school Friday.

Police are investigating the origin of the post.

La Porte ISD said there was no indication that this threat was credible, but the district is taking it very seriously.

The district sent the following notice to parents and guardians:

Late last night, La Porte ISD became aware of a rumor posted on social media regarding a shooting threat at La Porte High School today.  The La Porte Police Department was immediately contacted. We are working closely with the La Porte Police Department to determine the origin of this rumor, and while there are no indications that this is credible, additional LPPD officers and administrators will be at La Porte High School today.  Again, please be assured that we take any and all threats very seriously, and even those remarks made as a "joke" will be investigated and prosecuted accordingly. We appreciate our students and parents for working with us to keep our schools safe.

Two students were taken into custody Tuesday on suspicion of making similar threats.
