Authorities investigate claims of threats against more Houston-area schools

HOUSTON – Authorities at more Houston-area schools Tuesday were investigating claims of online threats.

According to a Facebook post on the Sheldon Independent School District page, a message was posted on social media that could be perceived as a threat against C.E. King Middle School.

In response, students will undergo a compliance check at the school Tuesday morning.

"Scared. Nervous. I didn't know what to do,” said an eighth grader at the school. She stayed home Tuesday.

She was shaken after the district sent out a message early Tuesday morning saying someone made a statement online that could be perceived as a threat.

The district told parents that all students would be checked in what the district called a “compliance check.”

The district said it learned of the online threat Friday night and took immediate action.

A video circulated on social media showed authorities at the school using a hand-held metal detector to wand students as they arrived Tuesday morning. They then hand-checked school bags. Harris County Precinct 3 Constable deputies patrolled the middle school as well as the nearby elementary and high school.

The sister of two middle school students said this helps, saying, "I was actually a little relieved that they were checking everybody. Because I think that should be done all of the time, everyday from now on, just with everything that is going on. But it's really scary for the kids."

According to the post, “During the compliance check, students will be checked for prohibitive items by staff members, and law enforcement will (be) on hand and part of the process.”

District to conduct compliance check at KMS this morning Sheldon ISD administrators were notified last night that a...
