Will Highway 290 construction be completed by end of 2018?

HOUSTON – As of early 2018, work is occurring on all 13 projects from I-610 up to the Harris-Waller county line, past Farm to Market Road 2920.

Sections G and K are almost complete.

The next section to wrap up will be Section A.

Openings will start to occur as each phase is completed.

Here's what you can expect once construction is finalized:

  • Five/six general-purpose lanes in each direction from Interstate 610 to just west of State Highway 6, plus auxiliary lanes where appropriate
  • Four general-purpose lanes in each direction from just west of State Highway 6 to near State Highway 99/Grand Parkway, plus auxiliary lanes
  • Three general-purpose lanes in each direction from near State Highway 99/Grand Parkway to Farm to Market Road 2920, plus auxiliary lanes

In addition, on Feb. 19, the new portion of high occupancy vehicle lanes will open from the Northwest Transit Center to West Little York.

Highway 6 bridge at U.S. 290:

Due to utility delays, the construction schedule on the bridge has changed. The new State Highway 6/Farm to Market Road 1960 bridge over U.S. 290 is now scheduled for completion in late 2019.
