Illegal dumping becoming a concern for Pct. 6 constables

HOUSTON – The Harris County Precinct 6 Constable's Office is fed up with an illegal dumping problem in their area.

"We're watching, people are going to be watching and we're going to come after you. We're not going to tolerate this," Sgt. Marco Leal said.

The most recent incident happened this past weekend under a bridge.

The dump was caught on camera.

It only takes a matter of seconds for the driver to jump out, illegally dump trash and take off.

"Some get too confident and they think they're not going to get caught. And they probably do this on a regular basis," Leal said.

Besides potentially lowering property values and being an eyesore, it's also against the law and could land the dumper misdemeanor or felony charges.

The even bigger concern is the unwelcome safety hazard.

"What you're talking about is material that may contain nails or any sharp objects in there, or even chemicals for that matter," Leal said.

That's why authorities are hoping someone will recognize the dumper and be on the lookout for any others possibly dumping illegally.

"Maybe they just don't want to take the time to go to the nearest dumping site and they feel that it's OK to do so -- and it's not OK. Go to the nearest dumping site and do it properly," Leal said.
