What do the Astros take with them to Spring Training?

HOUSTON – We have hit the month of February and that means baseball season will be arriving soon.

Major League Baseball Spring Training camps will get up and running by the middle of of the month and for the Astros that will mark the start to a repeat in 2018.

The Astros first workout for pitchers and catchers begins on Feb. 14 while full squad workouts open on Feb. 19.

The Astros first spring game is Feb. 23 against the Nationals in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Tuesday at Minute Maid Park the trucks were loaded for the 1,100 mile trip to West Palm.

We thought it was interesting to see exactly what it takes to hold a camp for six weeks so we got these numbers from the team on what was loaded for the journey to Florida.

Astros Camp by the Numbers:

  • 4 - Treadmills/elliptical machines
  • 30 - Pounds of rosin
  • 150 - Batting helmets
  • 150 - Belts
  • 200 - Cases of sunflower seeds
  • 250 - Astros jerseys
  • 300 - Astros caps
  • 300 - Cartons of bubble gum
  • 1,000 - Pairs of baseball pants
  • 2,000 - Pounds of laundry detergent
  • 8,400 - Baseballs (700 dozen)
