HPD officer fires shot at man outside southwest Houston apartment

HOUSTON – An officer fired a shot Friday at an apartment complex in southwest Houston.

Police were called just before 1:30 a.m. to the Bella Vista Apartments in the 12500 block of Mews Circle by a woman, who was not home at the time, saying she was concerned after getting a call from her children’s father that he wanted to visit in the middle of the night.  She reported that he sounded drunk.

When the officer arrived the man was banging on the apartment door, police said. The children were inside with a 16-year-old babysitter, according to police.

Investigators said the officer asked the man to turn around. The man had his ID in one hand and the other hand in his pocket, police said.  When the officer asked the man to put his hands up, the man took steps toward the officer and the officer fired a shot at the apartment door, investigators said.

No one was injured.

The man was taken into custody.

It is unclear if the man will face charges.
