Man killed during shooting at SW Houston gas station, police say
HOUSTON – A man is dead after someone shot and killed him outside a gas station in southwest Houston on Friday, Houston police said.
The shooting was reported at about 6:20 p.m. at the Valero Corner Store in the 3700 block of South Gessner Road, near Westpark Drive.
A Houston police homicide detective, D. Crowder, said witnesses and video surveillance indicated a four-door black or dark blue Chevrolet Cobalt pulled up to the gas station and parked next to the victim. They got into an argument and a passenger in the Cobalt shot him multiple times, police said.
The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators say they don’t have an exact motive, but believe the altercation was the reason for the shooting.
"Due to initial reports that we have and description that we have of the red hoodie and the clothing the victim was wearing, it's possible that this was a gang-related incident,” explained Crowder.
He said the victim had on a blue hoodie.
“Getting something to drink, that’s it. Innocent walk to the store and you get shot,” a cousin of the victim said.
The cousin said he, the victim and a friend were heading home when they stopped at the Valero Corner Store.
The cousin said the victim and the shooter got into an altercation and the shooter said, “You’re in the wrong territory.”
“That’s when I saw my cousin hit the floor, I’m over here focusing on his health not worrying about the people that did this,” the cousin said. “He got hit in the chest, so I’m applying pressure making sure, saying, stay with me.”
The cousin said the victim is a single father and worked at a warehouse.
“I want justice to be served. It will one day or another; karma is a you-know-what,” the cousin said.
Police said the shooter, a Hispanic male, was a passenger in the vehicle and two Hispanic females were in the front. The shooter was wearing a red or orange Astros hoodie, police said.
Authorities said they have surveillance video and are working to get that out to the public.
