Houston police open new southwest station

HOUSTON – Houston police opened a new station Friday on the city’s southwest side.

Mayor Sylvester Turner and Police Chief Art Acevedo cut the ribbon at the new Southwest Patrol Division at 13097 Nitida St.

Several other community members joined the celebration.

The station was previously located at the corner of Beechnut and Newcastle streets, but the growing needs of the community necessitated the move, officials said.

Public tours of the station were being offered Friday.
