Cold front causes temperatures to tumble in Houston area

HOUSTON – A strong cold front sweeping through Houston brings an end to our stretch of unseasonably warm weather.

Morning temperatures on Wednesday will be in the low 40s, with the mercury struggling to break 50 by the end of the day. Clouds, the persistent north wind and a mix of drizzle, sprinkles and light rain will make Wednesday a very raw day -- a stark contrast to Monday’s balmy feel.

Here's a look at climate info for first day of year with high temperatures in the 50s:

2017: Dec. 6 at upper 40s
2016: Dec. 3 at 56 degrees
2015: Nov. 29 at 52 degrees
2014: Nov. 12 at 58 degrees

Our area hasn't been in the 40s since January.

Clouds will linger into Thursday, with sunshine breaking out in full force on Friday.

Afternoon temperatures will moderate by the end of the week, back into the mid-60s, making for a very seasonably cool weekend.
