Lakewood Church won't be free tax help center this year

HOUSTON – Lakewood Church will not serve as one of the locations where people can get free tax help this year, according to the non-profit agency in charge of the program.

Officials at Baker Ripley, which runs the program that offers free tax preparation service to those who need it, said it was told that the church is focused on relief efforts after Hurricane Harvey.

Since 2009, Lakewood Church has served as one of many locations that Baker Ripley sets up each year.

Organizers at the charity said that there will still be 10 other locations where people can get help. Those will be announced at a later date.

Volunteer tax preparers are needed, and training starts Saturday. For more information about volunteering, go to volunteer.bakerripley.org.
