Morton Ranch High School student arrested, charged after bringing gun to campus

KATY, Texas – A Morton Ranch High School student was arrested  for bringing a firearm to school on Friday, according to a statement from Katy Independent School District.

No one was injured and the student did not threaten to use the gun, the district said.

The student was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm on school property, which is considered a third-degree felony.

The student will also be disciplined according to the Student Code of Conduct, officials said.

Here is the full statement from the district:

"On November 10, 2017, the Katy ISD Police Department arrested a Morton Ranch High School student for bringing a firearm to school. Fortunately, at no point did the student threaten to use the weapon. The student was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm on school property which is considered a third degree felony. Additional discipline will follow in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. In Katy ISD, protecting all students is a top priority and any behavior that jeopardizes the safety of any student will not be tolerated."
