HPD officer involved in crash when intoxicated driver runs red light, police say


HOUSTON – A Houston police officer was involved in a crash Thursday when an intoxicated driver ran a red light and slammed into the officer's unmarked vehicle, police said.

The crash was reported around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of North Wayside Drive and Ley Road.

Police said the officer was in uniform and driving an unmarked vehicle on Ley Road and had the green light. Police said a man driving on North Wayside ran the red light and struck the side of the officer's vehicle.

Police said the officer was taken to a hospital in stable condition with a concussion and an injured left arm.

The man who ran the red light was taken to Lyndon B.Johnson General Hospital and was found to be intoxicated, officials said.

Police said the man is charged with driving while intoxicated.
