HOUSTON – A man shot and killed his nephew Friday after the pair got into an argument at a northeast Houston home, police said.

The shooting was reported at a house near the intersection of Heath Street and Burning Bush Lane.

According to Houston police, Javonta Hooper, 23, and his uncle, Joseph Filer, got into an argument. They said that the argument escalated and Filer shot Hooper to death.

Filer, 42, was charged with murder in connection with the case. He was being held in the Harris County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Filer is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story reported that police identified Filer as the nephew and Hooper as the uncle. Police later corrected that statement.
