How social media exploded with support after J.J. Watt broke his leg

HOUSTON – Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has expressed the same devastation across his social media platforms since breaking his leg Sunday in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

He wrote on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram: “I can’t sugarcoat it, I am devastated. All I want to do is be out there on that field for my teammates and this city. I’m sorry.” JJ Watt Twitter:

Responses from Watt’s family and fans across social media have been sympathetic and supportive.

On Instagram, user lilsassysara wrote, “Please don't be sorry JJ! You have done more for our city than anyone could've ever dreamt of. You are loved and appreciated by millions! God will provide and you'll return. Take care of your health & wellness in the meantime, keep your spirits up because the whole city of Houston is behind you! We will see you soon!”

“You're an amazing man both on and off the field,” kmstaffeldt wrote on Instagram. “I'm sorry you're going through this. Rooting for you always!”

“All of Houston is grateful for your kindness and love!!” bobcatnat95 wrote on Instagram. “We all wish the very best for you as you recover! #houstonstrong #texanstrong”

On Twitter, Watt’s younger brother and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker TJ Watt wrote, “Heartbroken for you brother. #InjuriesSuck.”

Another of Watt’s younger brothers, Derek Watt -- a fullback for the Los Angeles Chargers -- wrote, “Still can't believe it...sick to my stomach watching on our flight home. I know you'll come back from this. Love you bro! @JJWatt #Family”

The Kansas City Chiefs wrote on Twitter, “Our thoughts are with you, JJ Watt. #FootballIsFamily.”

Watt’s girlfriend, Kealia Ohai, a Houston Dynamo star player, has not tweeted or posted on Instagram since Watt’s injury.
