Man shot protecting himself, brother from attempted robber

HOUSTON

A man is recovering after police say he was shot trying to protect himself and his brother from a would-be armed robber.

It happened on Coffee and Sunflower streets in southeast Houston Friday night.

According to police, the two brothers got off the METRO bus and another man followed them. The brothers started walking toward their apartment, but police say the third man stopped them.

Police say the third man pulled out a gun and held the brothers at gunpoint. Police say the man demanded their belongings and cash.

The older brother jumped at the man and tried to disarm him, police say. However, he was unsuccessful and the man allegedly shot him.

Police said the gunman ran off empty-handed.

The elder brother was rushed to the hospital in serious but stable condition, police said.

The younger brother was not hurt, police said.
