Reports: 3-year-old at center of Amber Alert was left outside as punishment for not drinking milk

Police believe child is in grave, immediate danger

RICHARDSON, Texas – The Richardson Police Department issued an Amber Alert Saturday afternoon after a 3-year-old girl was abducted.

Sherin Mathews is described as a 3-year-old girl that weighs about 22 pounds, has black hair, brown eyes and is about 3 feet tall.

KSAT-TV reports she was last seen Oct. 7 wearing a pink top and black pajama bottoms.

She's believed to be in grave/immediate danger. According to reports, the girl suffers from developmental issues and has limited verbal communication skills.

Her father, Wesley Mathews, was arrested Saturday and charged with abandoning or endangering a child he left his daughter in a backyard alley around 3 a.m. as a form of punishment for not drinking milk, according to NBC affiliate. When he returned 15 minutes later, Sherin Mathews was gone.

Mathews told police he saw coyotes in the alley where he left his daughter.

The search for the toddler continues.
