101-year-old veteran, Astros superfan's road to World Series

HOUSTON – A lot of fans were watching the American League Division Series inside Minute Maid Park, but one big fan watched it on TV.

Walter Peine is 101 years old and remembers baseball games before the Astros were the Astros.

“We went to see them then, when they were playing as the Colt .45s,” Peine said.

The Navy and Coast Guard veteran spends his time at the Belmont Village Senior Living Community in the Memorial Area. It’s where he watches the Astros games on TV.

“They’re the best team they’ve had in a long time,” Peine said.

Jose Altuve is Peine’s favorite player.

“Every time he gets to bat, you can expect him to get a hit,” he said.

With Altuve, Mr. Peine said this team stands out above all other seasons.

“If they keep playing like they’re playing now, they might play the World Series. They got to win a few more wins, though,” Peine said.

Peine will turn 102 years old on Oct. 20.
