Man steals 20 boxes of detergent from H-E-B, officials say

CYPRESS, Texas – A Cypress man has been charged with stealing 20 boxes of detergent from a local H-E-B on Sept. 4, less than two weeks after Hurricane Harvey's aftermath, Houston police said.

Surveillance video showed Eugene A. Hagan, 52, and a second man loading a shopping cart full of detergent and walking out of the grocery store, officials said.

After reviewing the videos, police said witnesses recognized Hagan and told officials he frequented the store.

Witnesses alleged Hagan's previous theft encounters at H-E-B had become a recurring problem.

According to court records, Hagan has multiple theft convictions, the most recent in July 2014.
