HOUSTON – Houston is among three cities in the United States that will have a team in the inaugural season of a new eSports league.

The Overwatch League looks to bring together some of the best video game players in the world, with teams in North America, Asia and Europe.

OpTic Gaming, an eSports organization, announced it will own a team in Houston. Team Envy will own the team in Dallas, while Comcast Spectacor will own a team in Philadelphia. The league will have a total of 12 teams for its inaugural season.

OpTic Gaming CEO Hector Rodriguez said it is an honor to represent Houston in the Overwatch League. He added, "We're excited to continue shaping the future of eSports and bring the OpTic passion to the rapidly expanding Overwatch community."

The Overwatch League will hold all preseason and regular season games at Blizzard Arena Los Angeles in Burbank, California. Preseason play will begin Dec. 6, with the regular season kicking off Jan. 10, 2018.
