San Jacinto River Authority facing questions from Kingwood residents

KINGWOOD, Texas – The San Jacinto River Authority is facing questions from people living in the Kingwood area.

Residents are upset because officials with the River Authority decided to open Lake Conroe's floodgates.

People who live near Lake Conroe's dam say the move caused massive amounts of water to flood their homes.

"Lake Conroe is probably one of 10 to a dozen major watersheds that all feed into Lake Houston. In fact, the flows from Lake Conroe make up about 10 to 20 percent of the water that actually flows into Lake Houston,” Jace Houston, with the River Authority, said.

Authorities said as the water level rises, the floodgate has to be opened to keep water from overflowing.
