KATY, Texas – Students who attend Creech Elementary School in Katy will be relocated to the University of Houston Campus in Cinco Ranch after floodwaters wreaked havoc on the building.

Officials at the Katy Independent School District said after Hurricane Harvey that Creech would be closed indefinitely after taking on several feet of water. That water has kept crews from conducting a full assessment of the damage.

District officials said they had reached an agreement with the UH Cinco Ranch campus that would allow students to utilize the facilities, add portable classrooms, and playground equipment and make minor modifications as needed.

“We’re greatly appreciative of the University of Houston’s ongoing support of Katy ISD and the community,” said Katy ISD Superintendent Lance Hindt. “We have been working on a tremendously short timeline over the past week, and the university has been extremely flexible in helping us to meet the needs of our students and families.”

The campus is located at 4242 S. Mason Road.

Katy ISD students return to class Monday.
