800-527-3907 is NOT the number for National Guard, in an emergency call 911
Posts on social media perpetuate fake phone number
HOUSTON – If you see posts instructing those in danger to call 1-800-527-3907 for the National Guard, don't share it.
An online search shows that phone number is assigned to Foremost Insurance -- an out of state insurance company.
Houston's Office of Emergency Management said those in danger should call 9-1-1.
The Houston Police Department said any immediate emergencies should be reported through 9-1-1. Houston's Coast Guard office said those who need to be rescued can also call: 281-464-4851, 281-464-4852, 281-464-4853, 281-464-4854, 281-464-4855.
Both agencies urge those who are in danger to not request assistance through social media.
Please use 911 for life-threatening emergencies, and 311 or the HPD non-emergency number 713-884-3131 as appropriate. pic.twitter.com/lN4yThX1fH— Houston Police (@houstonpolice) August 27, 2017
