Children's pool hit by stray bullet during shootout in neighborhood near Crosby

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – It was a scary situation for a neighborhood in the community of Barrett Station on Friday.

The scene involved a major shootout with shell casings, a blood trail and a stray bullet that nearly wounded some children in a nearby swimming pool, but investigators haven't been able to find anyone involved in the incident.

A spokesman with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said around 11 a.m., deputies responded to the home on Barrett Road near Highway 90 and Crosby Lynchburg Road, just south of Crosby, after reports of shots fired.

When they discovered a number of shell casings and blood in the driveway, but no people at the home, they called in SWAT officers to secure the house because they didn't know what they were dealing with.

Deputies eventually got in touch with the owner of the house, who rents out the home, and were able to obtain a search warrant. But after searching for hours at the scene, they have not been able to locate anyone who may have been involved in what was clearly a major shootout.

In that shootout, a stray bullet hit a pool in which a 13-year-old girl and her 9-year-old brother were swimming, but their grandfather told KPRC neither one of the children was injured and actually had no idea a bullet had struck the pool until sometime after the shooting.

Investigators left the home with a lot of evidence bags, but at this point they don't know who was involved in the shooting.
