Click2Daily: Fitness goals for fall

HOUSTON – It's August. The kids are going back to school. And parents have a choice. They can either go back to the gym and exercise or stay away.

Fall can mean you fall back into a healthy routine or fall right off the wagon.

"I love working out now. I didn't use to. I started working out in January. So, a complete reformation of everything," Megan Kubin said.

She started exercising earlier this year. She said she will keep going.

"I think it just really affects how you feel, and how you are around everyone. You're not tired. You're more upbeat. It gives you more energy," Kubin said.

She takes a 60-minute interval training class at Orange Theory Fitness at Sawyer Yards in Sawyer Heights. It is a heart rate-based class. That means the coach and classmates can see your heart rate on the big screen. The class balances cardio and strength exercises.

Head trainer Brenda Boyd said you can start from where you are.

"I would recommend starting off lightly, starting off two times a week. Try that for about three weeks and then pick it up. Add another day," Boyd said.

She said you can start with jumping jacks, pushups and squats, and work from there. But exercise is only part of the equation.

"Nutrition is 85 percent -- 85 percent of overall health. What you're consuming is very important. When you're going to the grocery store, you should shop on the outside. Do the perimeters first. The aisles are only processed food. If it doesn't spoil, it's not good for you," Boyd said.
