1 injured after chase ends with hit-and-run crash

HOUSTON – One driver was arrested and another driver was injured Sunday after a chase ended with a hit-and-run crash on the East Freeway, according to police.

The crash was reported about 11:35 p.m. near the intersection of East Freeway and Kress Street.

Monte Justus Pounds, 35, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Houston police said Pounds and Shannon Reeves were chasing each other before they pulled over in the 7200 block of the East Freeway and began arguing.

Authorities said Reeves,34, grabbed a weapon, got out of the car and approached Pounds' vehicle.

Authorities said Pounds intentionally ran over Reeves as he was walking away from his vehicle following the verbal altercation. Pounds then left the scene.

Reeves suffered severe head injuries and was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, according to authorities.
