1 dead, family of 6 hurt in separate crashes on I-10 East

A fatal crash that closed 1-10 East eastbound  at Gellhorn, and another crash on I-10 East at Mercury have been cleared and the freeway has reopened.

In the Gellhorn crash which closed the freeway for hours Sunday, a woman driving a Cadillac at a high rate of speed rear-ended an 18-wheeler around 6:10 p.m., authorities said. The 29-year-old died at the scene, according to Houston police. The truck driver was not injured. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, investigators said.

A separate rollover crash closed all main lanes of I-10 East eastbound at Mercury for a number of hours.

We're hearing a family of six was involved in that crash. One of the four children in a vehicle is in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital. The condition of the other three children is unknown at this time. We're told they're also at Memorial Hermann.

The mother in the vehicle has been taken to Ben Taub Hospital, while the father in the crash was also taken to Memorial Hermann. The condition of the parents' is unclear as of this writing.

We're working to find out what led to that crash.
