HOUSTON – One person is dead after a vehicle and a train collided in southwest Houston Saturday, according to authorities.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. near Main Street and Fondren Road.
Officers said a man driving a pickup truck drove around a stopped car at the railroad tracks and tried to beat the westbound train.
The train slammed into the side of the truck and pushed it about 200 yards, police said.
The driver died at the scene.
Witnesses told investigators the man disregarded the lowered railroad track barricades and lights.
