1 dead after 3-vehicle crash in NE Houston

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating a fatal crash in northeast Houston Sunday.

The driver of a black Kia Forte was driving southbound near the 11000 block of Homestead Road around 4:40 p.m. when he failed to maintain the speed of the vehicle as it made an unsafe lane change between two vehicles, police said.

The Kia struck the front of a gray Chrysler 300 and the rear of a Dodge Dart, according to police.

The impact forced the Dodge to veer off the road. Once off-road, the Dodge struck a fence and rolled over, investigators said.

The Chrysler went into a grassy median, struck a tree, crossed the northbound lanes of Homestead and struck a fence on the east side of the street.

The Kia struck a pole on the west side of Homestead.

The front passenger of the Kia died at the scene. The driver of the Kia was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. The identity of the man who died at the scene is pending verification by authorities.

A total of six others were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Authorities said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the incident.
