Willis head coach talks about Ladykats making school history in softball

HOUSTON – Stephanie Shelly has been the Willis head softball coach for almost 25 years and for the first time in school history her Ladykats are state tournament bound.

Senior third baseman Samara Lagway recognizes how special it is to be a part of the history making run.

"Were making history at Willis High School, just a little town, so it's pretty big," Lagway said.

Meanwhile, Shelly is preparing her team for what to expect in this uncharted territory for the Willis High School's softball program.

"Yes, you're going to be excited. Yes, you're going to be nervous and there's nothing wrong with that. But it's still just a game and it's still just softball. It's still 60 feet to first base," Shelley said.

The Ladykats play their first game Friday in Austin at the University of Texas softball field.
