13-year-old's death being investigated as suicide

HOUSTON – A mother found her 13-year-old son dead on Friday at a northwest Harris County home, investigators said.

Harris County Sheriff's Office Deputies are investigating his death as a suicide.

The teen's mother called 911 when she found her son dead in a home at 16500 Burnell Oaks Lane near Ella Crossing Drive, according to authorities.

The teen's identity has not been released.

Kalep Hogan, 14, still remembers the last time he saw his best friend.

"I saw him at 11:43 today at lunch," Hogan said. "We were both there to protect each other from different things, especially the students."

Hogan said he and his friend would sometimes get into arguments with other students, but they always had each other's backs. He said he doesn't understand why he would have taken his own life.

"He was very nice and very kind to a bunmch of people. He had a bunch of friends, too," Hogan said.
